The 2021 application season is around the corner. A good CV is essential, as it may facilitate getting an interview and even getting an offer. To enable students to prepare a complete and outstanding CV, Choi Kai Yau College House Association held a training workshop: “Preparing a well-written CV” on March 09, 2021. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities instructor, Mr. Vince Li, was invited to run the workshop. As soon as HA announced the activity, it attracted many students to sign up for it.

A CV outlines one’s abilities and experience in studies, extracurricular activities and work, and is a key stepping-stone in the application process for a job or further studies. A good resume is not just a description of personal information, also a record of skills and experience. In this training workshop, Mr. Vince Li first introduced the elements of an excellent CV to the students and emphasized what information should not be included in the CV. He next explained how to modify and highlight the content of the resume for different application purposes. Simultaneously, Mr. Vince Li also showed two sample CVs, a good one and a bad one, for students to think and discuss, and analyze their advantages and disadvantages. By comparing our CV to other good ones, we can look for problems in our CV and improve them. After the explanation, Mr. Vince Li also analyzed some students’ CVs and gave suggestions for them. After the training, Professor Janny Leung, Master of Choi Kai Yau College, presented a souvenir gift to Mr. Vince Li.

The whole training workshop went very well. Mr. Vince Li gave a lively lecture, and the students also had heated discussions. Everyone benefited a lot from the training and learned about various matters needing attention in CV writing. Refuse to simply “Ctrl+C” and “Ctrl+V”, instead create more possibilities. Whether you are about to apply for a job or for further studies, I believe you can get your desired application results!
