The Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) of the University of Macau (UM), Zhejiang International Residential College (ZIRC), and the Lap Chee College (LCC) of the Hong Kong University (HKU) launched a two-week “Zhejiang-Hong Kong-Macau” University residential college exchange program for staff and students from the three colleges from June 5th to June 14th.

The first phase of the exchange program took place at Zhejiang University’s International Campus from June 5th to 9th. At the launching ceremony of the exchange program, CKYC and ZIRC signed a memorandum of educational cooperation. In the next few days, staff and students from three Colleges attended the high table dinner hosted by ZIRC and listened to lectures by Prof Lap Chee Tsui, Master of ZIRC and other renowned scholars. In addition, participants visited many places including the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Dynamics and Mechatronic Systems, as well as the Zhejiang University Innovation Center of Yangtze River Delta, Jiaxing Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall, Hangzhou West Lake and Xitang Ancient Town. Students were deeply impressed by the Yangtze River Delta region’s strong culture of innovation and industry-university-research integration, as well as Jiangnan’s unique beauty.

The second phase of the exchange program was held in Macau from June 11th to 14th. Students and staff from CKYC received the ZIRC delegation. In addition to visiting CKYC and UM campus, they also visited the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and the State Key Laboratory in the Internet of Things for Smart Cities. Participants also joined “Walking through World Heritage Sites in City Area” guided tour organized by Macau Oral History Association to learn about Macau history and culture. Besides, ZIRC and CKYC students were divided into six groups to explore Macao following different themes, such as natural Macau, culture Macau, and history Macau etc. They visited places such as Ha Sac Beach, Ruins of St. Paul’s, and the Commemorative Gallery of the Macao Basic Law. The closing ceremony on June 14th featured students from two universities presenting their reflections in groups. Visiting Macau for the first time, ZIRC students thought it had a rich culture and history, abundant tourism resources, and unique charm that integrated Chinese and Western cultures. CKYC Master Professor Janny Leung concluded that the exchange program provides young people in Macau with a better understanding of Yangtze River Delta development and their motherland by providing them with an opportunity for communication between students and teachers of the three universities. In addition, it inspired students to consider how they can better integrate into the country’s future development and explore more opportunities for further study, scientific innovation, and employment in the future.”

CKYC student Un Sam said: “During this exchange project, I had the opportunity to experience life at Zhejiang International Campus, attend a high table dinner, and listen to lectures. In particular, I actively shared my experiences in the residential college at the University of Macau with students and teachers from ZIRC and HKU. The most impressive part of this exchange journey was making so many new friends. Another student, Zhang Yuying said: “Although this trip is over, the interactions between students and teachers from the three schools have not ended. We continue to use social media and network tools to communicate and share our insights and discoveries. The exchange program promotes not only cross-cultural understanding and exchange, but also academic and scientific research cooperation, improves internationalization levels at universities, and enhances innovation capacities. This kind of exchange and interaction will benefit our careers and expand our career potential in the future.”
