In order to encourage and promote the development of collegiate education at the University of Macau, Prof. David Pong, Founding Master of Choi Kai Yau College, made a generous donation for the establishment of two awards, namely “The David and Barbara Pong Founding Master’s Scholarship for Exceptional Contributions to the College”, and “The David and Barbara Pong Founding Master’s Award for the Best Reflection Report”, to recognize the students who greatly contributed to the College and made noticeable improvement in the quality of College life, or presented the best Reflection Report on the College activities that they have participated in during the year. These two annual awards have been granted since 2021.
On 22 April, 2022, Chair Professor and Interim Director of Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences, Billy SO, delivered a talk “The Path of My Academic Career: Past, Present, and Future” at CKYC, leading the students to go through his experience from a lost freshman to an aspiring university educator thinking out of the box. Prof. So was invited to present these prestigious Pong’s Scholarship Awards to the awardees, before his talk.
Three Year 4 Students, GAN Lihong, CHEN Guoqi, and YANG Hefeng, received “The David and Barbara Pong Founding Master’s Scholarship for Exceptional Contributions to the College”, for their continual support and generosity in helping the students and devoting themselves to the College. The group of Student CHAN Chi Weng, KUANG Siyuan, ZHOU Minhe and WEN Yahui, overcame a lot of challenges in the entire process for creating the CKYC Music Video, and the Student LIU Kexin, demonstrated her creativity and efforts in her design of a series of items for the College, finally won the “The David and Barbara Pong Founding Master’s Award for the Best Reflection Report”.
Amid the cheers and thunderous applause, the awardees came to the stage one by one, and gratefully received the awards from Professor So. Students were full of joy and expressed thankfulness. They are role models for CKYC students and will keep going to make the best CKYC!
