Children with autism and their families were invited to join a fluid painting workshop that was arranged by CKYC and Macau Autism Association. During the activity, the children seemed to be very curious about the fluid painting, and we surprisingly found that the parents were also full of excitement. One parent chatted with us during the event and said, “We had a lot of fun participating in this kind of activity, and this kind of activity also allows us to release some stress, our kids had a lot of fun, and we enjoyed the creative process at the same time.”

Some of the volunteers said that they had some misconceptions about the autistic community before they got to know them better. Some may think that autistic children are less talkative and more introverted. But in fact, through this activity, we found that many of the little kids are actually very lively and have their own ideas and talents in art. The volunteers were in great delight at being able to reach out, help, and take care of the autistic children.
There is no doubt that we learned more about autistic children and the practical ways of caring for them. We sincerely hope to see more individuals engaging in this kind of volunteer activity in order to increase mutual understanding between different groups.
