CKYC visited the Macau Coloane Prison on 22 March. During this event, the students not only engaged in in-depth discussions with the prison management, but also had face-to-face conversations with inmates. Students had the opportunity to explore various areas of the prison, gaining valuable experiences and insights. Throughout the visit, the students had lively and profound exchanges with Director of Coloane Prison, Lam Kam Sau and the prison management, discussing topics such as prison administration, rehabilitation education, and methods of helping inmates reintegrate into society. This exchange provided the students with a rare opportunity to understand the issue of crime from the perspective of professionals and explore society’s concern for and assistance to inmates. The personal interactions with the inmates left a deep impression on the students. Hearing their stories of criminal experiences and the process of rehabilitation, the inmates expressed remorse for their past actions and a strong desire for a better future. One statement that resonated deeply with the students was, “Judge sentenced according to the law, but society imposes a lifelong sentence on inmates.” This statement made the students aware of the need for society to show more understanding and support towards inmates. This visit not only deepened the students’ understanding of prison management and youth rehabilitation work, but also provided an opportunity for them to reflect on social issues and legal systems. It is hoped that through such activities, the students’ values of the rule of law and justice will be nurtured, and they will contribute positively to society.
