The award ceremony of the “Macao: Back to Common Roots Narrative Film” writing competition, hosted by MGM, the Macau Cultural Development Promotion Association and Pen of Macau with the theme of “patriotism”, was held on December 11, 2022 at the MGM Grand Ballroom. UM received the tertiary group Excellent Award with the highest number of winners among the tertiary group in Macau. Student He Yichen, who is from Choi Kai Yau College and Faculty of Arts and Humanities, won the Excellent Award by sharing his unique perspective with a coherent and engaging writing piece.

CKYC congratulates all the awardees! Below is the experience from the writing competition shared by Student He:

‘I took part in this writing competition because I wanted to try something new which I hadn’t experienced before and also because I was deeply impressed by the excellent content of the “Back to Common Roots” film so I was overwhelmed with feelings. It’s also a lovely coincidence that I was taking the GE course of Macao and Chinese Civilization during last semester, in which I learned and thought more about the history of Macao, so I found this competition an opportunity to put what I have learned into practice. I’m really happy to win the Excellent Reward in the competition, which I actually didn’t quite expect. Through watching the “Back to Common Roots” film and taking part in the competition, I had a much better understanding of the Macao city, improved my writing ability and also broadened my horizons. At last, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our College’s Associate Master Yaning for she offered me many suggestions which helped me improve my work.’
