On January 14, a total of 10 teachers and students of CKYC African Drum Team performed an African drum song named “kuku” at the opening ceremony of the UM Open Day, giving a good start for the event with the rousing beat and received a warm response.

At the evening of January 27, CKYC African Drum Team hosted an African music workshop in the College, for UM staff’s family members aged from 6 to 12. On that day, under the guidance of drum team members, the participants learned about different types and sounds of African drum. All the participants performed a complete song together with the African Drum Team. Then, they were introduced about the traditional method of producing African drum and appreciated a performance given by African people through a video. The entire activity brought lots of fun to the participants and was held successfully.

African Drum team has played an important element in CKYC’s RC education. Through trainings, performances and different workshops, the team members explore the African drum music and culture together and learn how to cooperate with the others. Their RC competencies in Culture Engagement, Teamwork and collaboration, and Service and leadership have been enhanced significantly through participating in these activities.
