In order to offer more learning assistance to first-year students, CKYC has initiated a tutoring program in the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023. At the beginning of the semester, 13 senior students are recruited as tutors from college with outstanding academic results and positive learning attitudes. The tutoring program mainly focuses on two freshmen courses, BECO 1000 Microeconomics and GEST 1001/1002/1003/1004 Quantitative Reasoning for social sciences/business/sciences.

After briefing and trainings, the tutors started the two months tutorial programs. The tutors conduct one tutorial class for each course every week. The instructions are mainly in Chinese, focusing on specific course content, study skills, and preparation for tests/exams. The tutors also created Wechat Group for each course to answer students’ questions in a timely manner.

To sum up, around 50 college students participated in the program, which provides a learning support system for CKYC freshmen and received good response from students. This program also provides a service-learning opportunity to tutors, letting them gain some experience in mentoring others and a deeper understanding of the course knowledge.
