Choi Kai Yau College of the University of Macau invited the International Negotiation and Mediation Society Macau and organized a “Mediation Workshop” for student leaders to share professional knowledge and practical experience on January 7th.

Mediation is a method of non-litigation dispute resolution that helps both parties reach a voluntary settlement agreement with the help of a third party. Mediation is widely used in business, family, labor, the community and other fields. It can save time, cost and effort, while protecting both parties’ privacy and relationship. The workshop covered basic mediation concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques, along with some college students’ conflict case studies. The instructor Simon Yeung explained mediation’s strengths and how it can be used to resolve a variety of conflicts and disputes to the student leaders with vivid language and rich case studies.

The College student leaders gave positive feedback about the workshop, considering it a rare opportunity for learning and exchange, as well as an exercise to enhance their leadership and communication abilities. They said they would be able to apply the mediation skills and knowledge they learned in their studies to their lives and jobs, as well as contribute to the harmony and development of the College and society in general.
