Janny Leung, Master of Choi Kai Yau College at the University of Macau (UM), has been inducted as a Fellow of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) in 2025. Prof Leung is the first female scholar from Asia to be awarded as a Fellow of IFORS.
Established in 1959 by the national operational research societies of France, Britain and the USA, IFORS has expanded over the years to comprise 55 national operational research societies around the world, with over 30,000 individual members. The objective of this global federation is to promote the development of operational research as a unified science and its advancement around the world.
The IFORS Fellows Award serves to recognize a distinguished individual’s contribution to international operational research and its communities. An expert in the fields of discrete optimization and transport logistics, Prof Leung is dedicated to promoting international exchange of knowledge and access to education in operational research and data analytics, as well as their applications in various fields. She served as the 23rd president of the IFORS from 2022-2024. Prof Leung was the first Chinese and the third person from Asia to be elected president of the IFORS.
