Janny Leung, Master of Choi Kai Yau College at the University of Macau (UM), has been elected a Fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), in recognition of her outstanding achievements in scientific research and her contributions to the advancement of related fields. Prof Leung is the second scholar from an Asian university to be elected a Fellow of INFORMS.
With over 12,500 members from around the globe, INFORMS is the leading international association for academics and professionals in operations research, management science, and analytics. INFORMS Fellows are elected for their exceptional accomplishments and significant contributions to the advancement of operations research and management sciences. Each year, only about 12 Fellows are elected. According to the citation, Prof. Leung is elected for her ‘extensive contributions to educational planning and leadership, multidimensional service to INFORMS, and theoretical and applied research contributions to integer programming, transportation and logistics.’
Since her student days in 1983, Prof Leung has been an active member of INFORMS, having served on various committees and organised many sessions for its annual conferences. She was the Sponsored Sessions Chair for the 2006 International INFORMS Conference held in Hong Kong. She served as the Chair of the Student Affairs Committee from 2000 to 2004 and the President of the Forum for Women in OR/MS from 2001 to 2002. Currently, she is the Chair of the Saul Gass Expository Writing Award Committee and an Associate Editor of two INFORMS flagship journals: Operations Research and Transportation Science.
