College Teams and Activities

CKYC COLLEGE CHEERLEADING TEAM

The Choi Kai Yau College cheerleading team won the Championship for many times in a row at the University of Macau Inter-College cheerleading competition. Besides spending tons of time on practising and teambuilding, the cheerleading team pioneered the use of props, mascots, and athletic techniques in the competitions. Collaborating with the Committee on Inter-College Affairs and Office of Sports Affairs, the CKYC cheerleading team organized several open workshops and had built a positive competition culture at the University of Macau in the past few years. In addition to garnering achievements and acclaim in UM, the CKYC cheerleading team had also been invited to perform at several significant external events such as the UM Open Day, Macau Sports Carnival, Macau International Parade, and the Macau Badminton Open, etc. Cheerleading practice and competitions provide opportunities for college students to build team spirit and a strong sense of belonging, as well as leadership skills.  The enthusiasm and innovativeness in forming new ideas and choreography in every competition and performance echo the “Dare to Think” aspect of the College motto.

CKYC COLLEGE AFRICAN DRUM TEAM

The Choi Kai Yau College African Drum Team was established in early 2017 under the support of the RC Development Fund. The drum team is an ensemble of West African instruments, aiming to enhance the competencies of cultural engagement, teamwork and collaboration, and healthy lifestyle in RC education. The drum team has been active at different occasions, including the performance at the College Formal Hall Dinners and UM Language and Culture Day, drum workshops at the home for the elderly, and the Christmas shows in Hong Kong.
