To enhance students’ competency development in interpersonal relations and teamwork, cultural engagement, citizenship with global perspective, and service to the community. CKYC offers a one-day educational trip to KaiPing County, Guangdong province, aimed at enhancing the cultural awareness about the social, culture, and historial significance of the Kaiping Diaolou and Villages.
Kaiping Diaolou and Villages, consisting of four groups of Diaolou, totaling some 1,800 tower houses in their village settings, were listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. Kaiping Diaolou and Villages feature the Diaolou, multi-storeyed defensive village houses, displaying a complex and flamboyant fusion of Chinese and Western structural and decorative forms. Kaiping Diaolou and Villages is the best reflection of this and served as close links between overseas Kaiping people and their ancestral homes.
CKYC Students would have the experience to travel this County and gain knowledge about Chinese and Western architecture from a global perspective.Prof. Pong will provide historical background – why these strange defensive tower and dwelling places were built in a particular time and place in this part of China.
