CKYC 2018 Summer Service & Learning Program in Rural China

The Summer Service and Learning Program in Rural China (SSLP) was initiated by Tsinghua University, Beijing from 2006. Every summer, Tsinghua University and Tseng Hin Pei Charity Fund recruit 180 Tsinghua volunteers, 150 volunteers from other regions and countries, who show a sincere commitment to voluntary work to be dispatched in 30 teams and conduct services in 30 counties throughout rural China.

This summer, Choi Kai Yau college will send 8 students representing University of Macau to provide various services in different rural counties in China. In each county, the team will consist of one Tsinghua teacher, four to five Tsinghua students, two CKYC students, and three to four volunteers from Hong Kong, Taiwan, US or UK.

The volunteers provides diversified services to the local students in those rural counties, including English/Math/Science teaching, culture lectures and culture exchange activities. The volunteers will not only bring knowledge, confidence and hope to the locals, expanding their horizons of the world, but also, this “cultural immersion” allows volunteers to understand more about the people and lifestyles in China as their motherland. The CKYC students will constantly summarize and share learning reflections among themselves and volunteers from other regions and countries.
